Obviously, some of the problems the 3-5 San Diego Chargers have had this year stem from injuries. Tight end Antonio Gates was hit hard last season with a dislocated toe, so much so that it forced him to undergo surgery last February. It's taken awhile for him to recover from the procedure, but it seems Gates is again ready to take his rightful place as one of the NFL's top tight ends.

LaDainian Tomlinson is coming to Minnesota for a visit, and the Vikings believe he'd be a good fit. Tomlinson is scheduled to meet with coach Brad Childress and other members of the organization on Thursday. The 2006 NFL MVP was released by the San Diego Chargers last month. Tomlinson is coming off the least-productive season of his nine-year career.

The Chargers continued to make sweeping changes to their roster by releasing Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jamal Williams. And it's a move with a potential to backfire after Williams turned around and signed a three-year deal with division-rival Denver.

The longtime heart and soul of the team's interior defense was let go, joining LaDainian Tomlinson as past featured players hitting the streets.

Williams tore his triceps in last year's season-opener and landed on IR, wiping out the majority of his season. But it appeared the Chargers were counting on Williams to get healthy and return to shore up a shoddy run defense.

Williams, though, will soon turn 34 and was to earn some $6 million next season, which includes a roster bonus.

That was too rich for the Chargers'...
