On crutches again, Montario Hardesty hobbled toward the stadium's exit after his first NFL game for a doctor's appointment.

Montario Hardesty can't seem to outrun his knee problems. The Cleveland Browns' highly touted rookie running back, whose career at the University of Tennessee was slowed by knee injuries, hurt his left one in the second quarter of Thursday night's 13-10 win over the Chicago Bears, a potentially major blow to the Browns' running game.

Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs will not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns because of a sprained right ankle.

Chicago Bears fullback Will Ta'ufo'ou suffered a sprained right medial collateral ligament in Saturday night's 14-9 preseason loss to the Arizona Cardinals, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The way Matt Leinart sees it, he's done all he can. Now, it's simply up to his coach, and Ken Whisenhunt wasn't giving any clues.

By Edward Kensik It appears that the breaks that went against the Bears in the opener against the Packers went the other way against the Steelers. That can only be the case when a reliable kicker like Pittsburgh’s Jeff Reed misses a pair of field goals that could have easily gone through the uprights. And in turn Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has gone from an over-hyped signal caller to ...

There is one thing that will definitely hurt the Chicago Bears with the loss of Brian Urlacher to a wrist injury this season, eye balls on the screen and tickets sold. Many point to when Urlacher was lost to an injury in 2004 for seven games that the Bears did not win a game, but the Urlacher of 2009 while still a very good linebacker is not at the level of '04. Until 2009 that was the only year ...

By Edward Kensik It might sound too simple, but Sunday night’s contest between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers will come down to if the Bears defensive line can stop Packers’ running back Ryan Grant and the other Pack backs. While everybody will be talking about the battle between Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers, all you have to do is look at the 2008 results. When the Bears ...

Days before the Bears walk on the field at Lambeau Field, the team should do its due diligence to get another running back onto the team. After the cuts the Bears appear to have one remaining spot open as of Labor Day and it would appear that it will be a running back. The Bears are in this situation after it was announced that Kevin Jones out for the season because of a torn ligaments ...

What to look for on Sunday night at 7 p.m. as the Chicago Bears travel to Denver: 1. Jay Cutler – How does he react to the vicious Broncos crowd? 2. Wide receivers – Is Cutler getting on the same page as Devin Hester? What other receivers will shine, Earl Bennett or Brandon Rideau or Juaquin Iglesias or Johnny Knox? 3. Defensive line – Will the new fangled defensive line under Rod ...

CLEVELAND – The Bears weren't exactly a juggernaut in the preseason, scoring only 46 points, the second fewest in the NFL. But tight end Greg Olsen isn't concerned as the regular-season looms.

Cleveland Browns rookie running back Montario Hardesty has a torn ACL and likely will miss the entire 2010 season, ESPN reports. Hardesty injured his left knee in the second quarter of Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Bears. He’ll undergo surgery to repair the ligament and will be in recovery for about nine months, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I hurt my knee making a cut. I really don't know what it is. I can't say it's not frustrating," Hardesty said following the game.

Despite a preseason that had him running for his life or ducking for cover far too often, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler can't wait for the regular season to begin.

That might seem odd, considering the Bears scored just 17 points in the five quarters that Cutler had played going into the final preseason game, during which he was sacked 10 times, threw two interceptions and compiled a passer rating of 62.4.

Questions about the reworked offensive line's ability to protect Cutler have not been answered to anyone's satisfaction, although the quarterback and offensive coordinator Mike Martz both insist there has been improvement. The other huge question was how quickly the offense would fully grasp Martz's thick playbook.

The Bears' offense -- overwhelmed by a complex system and rattled by a shaky preseason -- desperately needed some momentum heading into the Sept. 12 opener against the Detroit Lions. A Fortune 500 company might roll out the red carpet for Dr. Phil or Anthony Robbins. But the Bears' offense got the NFL equivalent: the Cleveland Browns' defense.

Neil Hayes: Last week, we presented 10 Bears players who have made the most out of training camp and preseason. With one day left before the roster is trimmed from 75 to 53 players, here's a look at 10 players who haven’t helped themselves, and, in some cases, might have lost their jobs:

CLEVELAND -- It's only the preseason. You can cross that excuse off the list now that an agonizing exhibition slate mercifully ended with the Bears' 13-10 loss at Cleveland Browns Stadium on Thursday night.

CLEVELAND -- If nothing else, Todd Collins gave the Bears peace of mind Thursday night.
