Jan. 5--In a game that will offer a flashback to Amsterdam, October and autographs, the Carolina Panthers will host the Arizona Cardinals Saturday at 8:15 p.m. in the NFL playoffs.

01/06/2009 04:00 AM
PLAYER NOTES --QB Kurt Warner was very efficient in his first playoff appearance since 2001. Warner was 19 of 32 for 271 yards and two touchdowns. He threw for three first downs on the team's final possession. --WR Anquan Boldin suffered a strained hamstring against the Falcons and likely will be questionable for Sunday's game. Don't expect Boldin to practice this week, or for the Cardinals to say much about the injury. They give few details about injuries.

01/06/2009 04:00 AM
The Cardinals' struggles on the East Coast again will on public display this week as the club prepares to travel to Carolina a second time this season. The Cardinals are 0-5 in the Eastern time zone this year, including a 27-23 loss at Carolina in late October. Since 2003, the Cardinals are 2-19 when playing in the East, with their last victory coming in 2007 against the Bengals. It's a big reason the Cardinals opened the week as 10-point underdogs to the Panthers, the No. 2 seed.

01/06/2009 04:00 AM
--Free safety Antrel Rolle now has scored five touchdowns on nine turnovers. He has returned four of his eight career interceptions for scores, and returned a fumble for a touchdown last week. --Of the Cardinals' 22 starters against the Falcons, 16 made their playoff debut last week. --Cardinals president Michael Bidwill decided to keep the roof at University of Phoenix Stadium closed last Sunday, and his quarterback appreciated it.

01/06/2009 12:42 AM
There are two faces to the Arizona Cardinals' defense. There's the ugly one that surrendered 514 yards at New England. Then there's the handsome one that shut down the Atlanta Falcons in the Cardinals' biggest game of the season. The Falcons managed just 250 yards in their 30-24 wild-card playoff loss to Arizona on Saturday, including a season-low 60 on the ground. Michael Turner, the No. 2 rusher in the NFL behind Adrian Peterson, gained 42 yards in 18 carries, an average of just 2.

01/05/2009 09:16 PM
Arizona wide receiver Anquan Boldin has a strained left hamstring and his status is uncertain for Saturday night's NFC divisional playoff game at Carolina. "We'll see how it goes this week," coach Ken Whisenhunt said at his Monday news conference. Boldin was injured on a 71-yard touchdown pass from Kurt Warner in the second quarter of Arizona's 30-24 wild-card playoff victory over the Atlanta Falcons last Saturday. He returned to play one more series, then limped off the field for good.

01/05/2009 11:00 PM
Just like last year's offseason spectacle, the 2009 NFL Draft is dependent on the underclassmen who decide to forego their collegiate careers and pursue the ultimate dream of playing in the National Football League. This mock draft projects 18 seniors and 14 underclassmen being selected in the first round.

01/05/2009 08:53 PM
The Vikes came up short Sunday, but Alex Marvez likes their chances in 2009. See how he feels about the other first-round losers.

01/05/2009 04:15 PM
The Cardinals' run defense was exceptional Saturday against the Falcons, limiting Michael Turner to 42 yards on 18 carries. It faces another big challenge this week in Carolina, and the Cardinals must prove they can take the act on the road. The Cardinals had success against the Panthers earlier this season, limiting them to 113 yards rushing.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin's contract dispute is getting a bit messy. And fans on the Cardinals' official team forum are talking almost exclusively about the drama in the desert that is unfolding as the team looks to get back to the playoffs and win a game after more than a decade of futility. A poll on the forum asks the question: "Will you boo Boldin at the first home ...

Arizona signed two draft picks, sixth-round OLB Christopher Harrington and seventh-round OT Brandon Keith. Keith is a talented player who was arrested on three misdemeanor charges of rioting and interfering with officials back in March. Harrington was a defensive end at Texas A&M, but the Cardinals are projecting him as an outside linebacker. Cardinals rookie contract status as of July 11 1 ...

The Cardinals have two of their seven draft picks as of June 21 - DE Kenny Iwebema and RB Timothy Hightower - under contract, and their top pick, CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, remains unsigned. Cardinals rookie contract status as of June 21 1 (16). CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee St. – Unsigned 2 (50). DE Calais Campbell, Miami – Unsigned 3 (81). WR Early Doucet, LSU – ...

06/17/2008 02:23 PM
Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin is undecided on whether he will attend training camp at the end of July. Cardinals fans seem to be undecided on whether Boldin's leverage move is legitimate. On the team's official forum, opinions on Boldin's battle for a new contract are mixed. One poster compares Boldin to Cincinnati WR Chad Johnson. "...it is bush league to come out and say that he is ...

Former NFL lineman Luis Sharpe has been sentenced to six years in prison and four years’ probation for drug offenses. Commentary: Sharpe, 47, played for both the St. Louis and Arizona Cardinals from 1982-94. He was named to the Pro Bowl three times. Unfortunately, it was when he was a 21-year-old rookie that he first used cocaine, a drug that continues to be Sharpe's enemy today. Sharpe ...

"Show me the money!" It was a phrase made popular by fictional Arizona Cardinals receiver Rod Tidwell in the movie, "Jerry Maguire." Well, now some of the real Arizona Cardinals are saying it, and the franchise might have some tough choices to make because of it. Among the financial decisions facing the team this month are (1) what to do about receiver Larry Fitzgerald's $16.5 million ...

In the old days -- say, five years ago -- folks who had the chance tried to get out of Arizona as quickly as possible. Now people actually want to stay, and the Cardinals are willing to pay to keep them. Offensive coordinator Todd Haley turned down a chance to interview with the Miami Dolphins this week because he preferred to sign a contract extension with the Cardinals. "The biggest thing to ...

12/20/2007 08:46 AM
Kurt Warner thinks he can be the Arizona Cardinals' quarterback next season, and, based on what happened this year, he probably has a key supporter in rookie coach Ken Whisenhunt. But Whisenhunt needs to swallow hard and give the job back to Matt Leinart next year. Warner, 36, has had one of the best storybook careers in NFL history, rising from grocery stocker to NFL MVP almost overnight. But ...

10/12/2007 08:22 AM
It's hard to know what to feel about the latest development in the Arizona Cardinals' quarterback soap opera. On one hand (let's call it the left), you have to feel bad for Matt Leinart, whose promising second season has been ended prematurely thanks to a broken collarbone. On the other hand (call it the right), you have to feel good for Kurt Warner, the 36-year-old former NFL MVP who gets ...

09/25/2007 09:13 AM
Ken Whisenhunt says Matt Leinart is still Arizona's starting quarterback, but it will be interesting to see for how long after the first-year coach pulled the second-year passer for veteran Kurt Warner against Baltimore on Sunday. Whisenhunt said Warner knew the Cardinals' no-huddle offense better than Leinart, which seemed obvious considering the 36-year-old former NFL MVP nearly rallied the ...

It's a good time to focus on what makes these Cardinals special, and not what makes them road kill.

01/05/2009 06:27 AM
History rarely has been a cozy bedfellow of the Cardinals, but it also gives them hope.

01/05/2009 01:58 AM
